You have now mastered the art of working with silver clay during New Metals Technology I & II, now JDMIS gives you the the opportunity to expand your creative horizons!

Working with silver is fun and easy - but now, you will discover advanced techniques using Silver metal clay and other materials that will challenge you and provide new design possibilities.

This is the third in a series of our improved 30 hour programmes that includes more projects and materials to ensure you build the confidence to create professional level jewellery in more than just fine silver.

Course outline

With experience comes the confidence to work with better quality materials. Master the combination of 22 karat gold into your designs, as well as how to fuse gold-leaf to silver designs to achieve an opulent look without the cost of solid gold. As well as working with the finest materials, mastery of metal clays requires expertise in creating moulds and patterns to produce consistent lines of precious metal jewellery. This programme consists of 6 directed projects and 1 final project and assessment over five days.

Moulds and Texture Creation

Moulds and Texture Creation

The creation of rubber moulds and their use to make multiple copies of existing jewellery components are skills required by every professional. Learn to capture and re-use textures and shapes using polymer clays and silicone binary moulds. Experimenting with repeating design elements, your first projects will ensure understanding of replication, and provide experience with one of the latest Art Clay alloys.
Gilded Silver Pendant

Gilded Silver Pendant

Some gold designs require a tighter budget, yet need to be more durable than simple gold-plating. 'Gilding' techniques involve the use of gold leaf and a heat bond to the silver surface. These produce an affordable and visually stunning alternative to solid gold. Your second project will be gilded: providing many times the durability of standard gold plating.
Gold & Silver Combination Techniques

Gold & Silver Combination Techniques

Having mastered the use of the wide variety of Silver types, Your third project will introduce 22karat gold clay. Learn how properly work with this valuable material and how to minimize waste when designing with 22K gold metal clay. After creating a solid 22K gold piece, you will then learn to effectively combine gold and silver materials for two-toned jewellery pieces of high intrinsic value.
Multi-layered Quick-Art Designs

Multi-layered Quick-Art Designs

With hundreds of commercial texture plates and special rubber texture moulds, metal clay artists are able to speed their design process dramatically. Learn about different techniques for using these tools effectively and combining them to form unique designs. For your fourth project, learn to create with pure Bronze clay and the multitude of commercial pattern tools available to metal clay artists.
Fine Stone Setting

Fine Stone Setting

The flush-setting technique can be used to accurately and securely set gemstones on a wide variety of surfaces. For your fifth project you will set large numbers of small gemstones on a brooch design of your choice. This technique of 'encrusting' (covering a surface with small gems) is used to perfect your advanced stone setting skills.
Paper-type Quilling Technique

Paper-type Quilling Technique

Perhaps the most unusual and unique type of metal clay is the paper-type. By infusing fine silver powder into an absorbent paper base artists can now fold and cut silver as easily as paper! Using this paper type to create fine strips that 'quilled', your sixth project will emulate traditional filigree or even cannetille techniques seen in the most elaborate jewellery styles.
