Fashion Jewellery Instructor

Cherry Tan's journey into the world of jewellery design is narrative rich with creativity and compassion, anchored by an academic foundation in Psychology and a professional background as a Play Therapy practitioner as well as academic tutor for children. These roles have nurtured her innate patience and care, qualities that she now brings to her work as a jewellery designer and educator.

Embarking on a path of lifelong exploration of creativity and crafts, Cherry slowly realised a profound love for jewellery making—a field that allowed her to fuse her interest in art with the joy of crafting by hand. Her educational pursuits in this new passion led her to earn an extensive jewellery education - several Diplomas in Fine Jewellery Design, Fashion Jewellery, and Precious Metal Arts from JDMIS, each contributing to a deep-seated understanding of both the theory and practice of jewellery creation.

Cherry's design aesthetic is diverse, drawing from the richness of the physical world as much as the intangible allure of the unseen, with a special fondness for the unique stories told by natural stones and pearls. Her work celebrates this diversity, embodying the idea that every piece of jewellery should have its own narrative.

Her talent was recently spotlighted when she was named the Gold winner of the fashion jewellery category in the Earth Day 2022 competition, validating her skill in translating conceptual themes into tangible, wearable art. With Cherry on the verge of bringing her own line of jewellery to life, she anticipates future opportunities to share her creations with a wider audience through JDMIS’ not-for-profit entrepreneurial incubator, the Creative Jewellery Studio (CJS).
